Hmmmm?

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

We all know this heres the poem

The Hollow Men
T. S. Eliot
Mistah Kurtz—he dead.

A penny for the Old Guy

I

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death’s other Kingdom
Remember us—if at all—not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

II

Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death’s dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind’s singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.

Let me be no nearer
In death’s dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat’s coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer—

Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom

III

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

Is it like this
In death’s other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.

IV

The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river

Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death’s twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

V

Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o’clock in the morning.

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom

Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow
Life is very long

Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom

For Thine is
Life is
For Thine is the

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

So here we go

Well this is likely to be an interesting segment of my life. Im off to the states for 2 weeks odd to meet Karen a lady I have been corresponding with for 8 months. The obvious question no we didn’t meet on a dating site That’s actually kind of important to me as it feels a more natural like in the old days when you went to a club and you meet people with mutual interest not throwing a damper on dating sites I think I heard somewhere that will be the future of a lot of hook ups.

So anyway should one feel apprehensive on meeting someone that you have been talking to for 8 months but have not physically meet. I suppose it depends on what one expectations of the future are that come from the meeting. At the moment as I sit comfortable in the koru lounge at Auckland awaiting my flight to San Francisco I am incredible relaxed lets see how I am 10 mins out of New York LOL

I have my first long haul travel coming up since leaving Air NZ. Not being with the airline anymore I didn't renew my Annual travel insurance as well lets face it i don't travel so much. So i had to go out and find a one trip insurance.

The trip is to the States, and as we all know that's the most expensive destination for travel insurance.

The price difference I found between the different companies was astounding!.

I'm sure each of the different companies policies will suggest there's is that much better but for me when it came down to it I basically was only interested in the medical cover and public liability.

For this i could have paid nearly $500! for 17days or what I ended up paying $69!

So if you cant be bothered to shop around try 1Cover I found the best value with them.

Sunday

Daily Light saving has been turned on here in NZ so we lost an hour this morning. My computers, my phone IPod touch all correct themselves just the dear old clock in the kitchen has to be changed forward.

I was chatting this morning to Karen in the states about ghettos and how they go generation to generation in the ghetto, and getting out is hard, but not impossible.

I believe  a lot could effect change if they choose to. And i was thinking imagine if we gave the advertising agency's a brief to effect change, just like they get us to change brands of washing powder or socks worth thinking about

Letter to Claire

From the film Letters to Juliet the letter Sophie wrote to Claire

"'What' and ‘if’ two words as nonthreatening
as words come. But put
them together side-by-side and they
have the power to haunt you for the
rest of your life: ‘What if?'..."

"I don't know how your story ended.
But I know that if what you felt
then was love - true love - then
it's never too late. If it was true
then it why wouldn't it be true
now? You need only the courage to
follow your heart..."

"I don't know what a love like that
feels like... a love to leave loved
ones for, a love to cross oceans
for... but I'd like to believe if I
ever felt it. I'd have the courage
to seize it. I hope you had the
courage to seize it, Claire. And if
you didn't, I hope one day that you
will."

Twitter Comment

“I imagine most users are not going to want to have all of their Twttr messages published on a public website.”

This was a comment in 2006 by a industry expert on the future of twitter (it was called Twttr then) Boy! was he wrong

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life--learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing
and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and
stick together.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: The
roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but
we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the
Styrofoam cup--they all die. So do we.
And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned--the biggest word of all--LOOK.

Wasabi Nights a different sort of Men's Blog

I came across by chance this really cool blog it is focused to a degree at American males but there are a lot of interesting articles for us all which ever side of the ocean we are on.
This article I personally found very interesting.
Find the blog here: Wasabi Nights

Ten Things Men Should Know about Business Formal Attire:
1.  The point of your tie should never fall below your belt buckle.
2.  If your dress shirt is blousing out around your waist, it doesn't look like a dress shirt, it looks like a blouse.
3.  You should always wear your seat belt, but make sure the shoulder strap goes under your tie.
4.  French cuffs are always appreciated by women as long as your cuff links don't sparkle more than her own jewelry.
5.  If you must economize, get a good suit and great shoes.  Don't skimp on the shoes, ever.  A great suit with lame shoes is wasted money on the suit.
6.  Unless you can pull off the movie star, runway, urban street look; please don't wear sneakers with a suit, there's nothing cool or polished about looking goofy.
7.  It's always better to be overdressed than under dressed.  The best dressed man in the room commands attention and leaves the rest of the men wishing they had dressed better.  Be a leader not a follower.
8.  Drape your jacket over an un-used chair or better yet, bring a hanger to work and hang it up when you aren't wearing it.  If you place your jacket on your seat back and sit on it, it will look like you placed your jacket on your seat back and sat on it.
9.  Button down collars on simple dress shirts are not your friend.  If you still wear them, it's time to update!  NOTE: button down collars on super fitted, stylish designer brand shirts can be a good look.
10.  Clothes that fit well always look better.  Better quality clothing is designed to fit better.  Practice quality over quantity.
Ten Things Men Should Know in General:
1.  Women notice nose hair; so should you.
2.  If you have dandruff or dry scalp issues, please stay away from dark, solid colored shirts and jackets until you can get your flakes under control.
3.  If you want to look taller, try sitting and standing up straight.  Slouching is never attractive and is terrible for your back.  Good posture is always attractive and excellent for your abs.
4.  Put a post it note on your computer screen that reminds you to sit up straight.  Practice daily.
5.  A T-shirt that shows through your dress shirt is as classy as a woman's black bra showing through her white T-shirt.  Just say no to ghetto.
6.  Sierra Trading Post, Outlet Malls, etc. have great sale prices.  However, there is a reason those items are for sale.
7.  Women shop online but rarely buy.  Men buy online but rarely shop.  People who shop are more particular about what they buy.
8.  MEN: Be wary of what you buy online unless you know the size, style and brand already.  All too often you fill your closet and home with things that don't quite fit but you keep it anyway.
9.  Add up the amount of money you spend on sale clothing you don't or shouldn't wear because it doesn't fit right, doesn't look right, doesn't feel good or looked bad after you washed it.  That money would have been better spent on a full price, quality item that you wear weekly and love.
10.  Always keep a lint roller handy (in your office or car).  Fuzzy, hairy, snow-speckled clothing is always a faux pas no matter what you are wearing.
Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend.

Getting out of Town

When you live on an Island you limit your means of escape! Not being a good swimmer, I tend to fly! Having worked for an airline for awhile I do tend to feel some alligance to that same airline but will gladly fly with another if the deal is a fair bit better. Living in New Zealand the choice is limited anyway but what i have found is it can be cheaper to buy a ticket to Australia and then buy a ticket form there to the rest of the world. If you do try and make it the same carrier (airline) then ring them up and get them to combine the itinary which they will likely do. This should have some advantges if you get delayed the clerks can see you forward travel and reschedule flights for you.

Life. part two

Well obviously the title of Life 2.0 was a play on words of the Web.2.0 thats going around at the moment, obviously Rich Karlgaard had a similiar idea.
I rembered the other day being told by a friend about there Uncle Jack. Uncle jack was married and recently retired living happily with his wife of many years. She died and Uncle jack found himself alone. So I imagine he had a bit of a think and decided "F*** It" He sold his house and car packed an overnight bag and picked up his golf bag and set of to play golf around the world. Now apparently Uncle Jack had at least two things going for him one he was and affable sort of chap and two he was a member of the hole in one club. These two things got he many invites to play and invites to stay from the19th hole. I dont know how Uncle Jack faired (who cares) its the idea of it that counts here. So the idea is I'm packing my overnight bag sorry but I dont play golf.....
